Physics Session 3: Rube Goldberg Challenge

A-Level physics requires patience, determination, creativity and the ability to think around a problem. That’s why we’ve set you the challenge to design your own Rube Goldberg machine.

Named after the American cartoonist this is a machine that is purposely designed to perform a simple task in an indirect, convoluted way. The task is up to you and can be anything from switching on a kettle to blowing out a candle.

There are plenty of examples on the internet for inspiration including our teacher, Karen, watering a plant Rube Goldberg style, see the Youtube link.

Once you have your working contraption, video it and upload it. We can’t wait to see your creations.
