Engineering Session 2: Spaghetti Tower Challenge

Spaghetti Tower Team Building Challenge

Up until recently the majority of our engineering students looking for employment or apprenticeships in the industry attended group assessment sessions at engineering companies. These involved psychometric tests and group challenges to see if candidates had teamwork, problem solving and leadership skills.

The classic challenge in these assessment days is when you are given only spaghetti and marshmallows and asked to build the tallest freestanding tower. To replicate this (you never know you may need it again) and to allow you to show your transferable skills to us please work as a team with your family and using only spaghetti and marshmallows build the tallest tower.

No other rules; it’s as simple as that. One of our tutors, Karen, has completed the challenge at home and got a height of 60cm so your challenge is to go higher and when you have, take a photo and upload here. We’d love to see your towers.

What to do when you're finished ?

Keep a copy of your work safe until your first days at college. Bring it with you for your first lesson in this subject.
