Exploring English Language

The AS and A-Level English Language courses are really different ways of looking at language – when you study English Language at A-Level you are really ‘doing linguistics’.

If you are interested in finding out about language and what linguistics is all about, here is a fun reading list to take your interest a bit further. And, to whet* your appetite a bit more, we’ve also included five short animated videos about English, especially its amazing history.

(*Yes, it is really ‘whet’ – it means to sharpen (and has nothing to do with the word ‘wet’).

Keep a copy of your work safe until your first days at college. Bring it with you for your first lesson in this subject.
